It looks like Carnage may be getting some help taking on Venom in the second installment. Venom 2 is slated for for theaters in October 2020 and appears to be adding an additional villain. Sources close to the project indicate that the character Shriek, will be the newest character to join the rumble.
Those familiar with the Marvel comic book character, Shriek, will likely feel that this is a somewhat sensical addition. Considering the existing relationship between Shriek and Carnage, as well as the characters sonic-powered abilities. As things stand, Cletus Kasaday, aka Carnage, will function as the primary antagonist. This theory has existed since the brief cameo by Woody Harrelson as Kasaday in the original Venom‘s mid credit preview.
Shriek’s character first arrived in May of 1993 in Spider-Man Unlimited No. 1. The character got her start as a drug dealer named Frances Barrison. Her suppressed mutant abilities finally emerged after an intense traumatic experience. Those powers included the ability to manipulate and create violent and dark emotions, flight, as well as sonic energy blasts.
While Venom 2 hasn’t started filming yet, some things have been determined already. For instance, Tom Hardy, who was responsible for carrying the first film, primarily on his own, will reprise his role as Venom. Ruben Fleischer, who directed Venom has left the project and Andy Serkis is now at the helm. Despite a good deal of clarity with the leads, there are still other roles that must be determined. Included in that search is Shriek, but with production slated to start soon, the role will need to be filled sooner than later. Time will tell how the symbiotic characters will interact.
