Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman) will have a lead role in Lana Wachowski’s upcoming Matrix 4, says Variety. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising their roles from the original trilogy. Besides directing, Lana Wachowski will also pen the script alongside authors Aleksandar Hemon, and David Mitchell, the author of the best-selling novel Cloud Atlas adapted into a movie by Wachowskis in 2012.
A former architect and a city planner, 33-year Abdul-Mateen’s breakout role was in Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama series The Get Down. Abdul-Mateen went on to appear in the action-comedy Baywatch, musical film The Greatest Showman, and Jordan Peele’s horror film Us. Abdul-Mateen will co-star in the HBO series Watchmen as well as in Netflix’s science-fiction anthology series Black Mirror. He is currently in talks to play the lead character in the upcoming Jordan Peele-produced Candyman remake.
