BloodyDisgusting reports that director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead remake, thriller Don’t Breathe) will produce a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film in association with Legendary Entertainment. Onboard is also Kim Henkel, writer and producer of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While this new entry in the series will continue the story of the first film, it will ignore all sequels and prequels.
This is the first news about the new film in this cult slasher franchise since the release of Leatherface in 2017. For the uninitiated, there are currently eight films in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. Tobe Hooper introduced viewers to Leatherface and his merry family of cannibals back in 1974. He changed the horror game forever, ushering in the era of slashers. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was followed in 1986 by Hooper’s own darkly comedic sequel. The franchise also includes several failed sequels, two separate prequels, a 3D movie and a fairly successful ($107,1 million at the box office) 2003 remake.
