‘It Made You Stronger” TV commercial for Fox’s upcoming Dark Phoenix film as advertising ramps up.
Recap:
Written and directed by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand), X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the twelfth film in the X-Men film series.
based off of the popular ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ arc done by Christopher Claremont during his first run on The Uncanny X-Men comic book. In the story, X-Man Jean Grey, during a mission in space, bonds with the Phoenix force (an immortal and immutable manifestation of the universal force of life and passion) and is corrupted, eventually driven mad by her newfound power, and brought into a confrontation with everyone else.
Toruk's Take Dark Phoenix is such a badass storyline. It’s such a shame to see it so…reduced. Perhaps those who don’t understand the disappointment people like me have with what they’ve done will understand after this: The X-Men comic books and characters were infinitely more interesting and enjoyable to us X-fans than Captain America, Iron-man, The Avengers etc. Those in our eyes were C-list characters. Hard to believe but true. The X-books were where it was at. What was done with the MCU and the whole buildup to Thanos and the Infinity War…that kind of time and grandeur should have been given to the Phoenix Saga. That’s how big a deal this was to people like myself. Old-school X-fans. Inferno is another X-Men crossover storyline that should receive this kind of treatment. Though given the direction the MCU is going I shudder to think what they will do to my beloved X-Men. I’m not looking to just dump on these guys and this project but it’s difficult to look upon it understanding what could have been and not be instilled with a big bag of ‘meh’.
Dark Phoenix starring James McAvoy,Michael Fassbender,Jennifer Lawrence,Nicholas Hoult,Sophie Turner,Tye Sheridan,Alexandra Shipp,Kodi Smit-McPhee,Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain arrives in theaters June 7th.
