The BBC has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming television series His Dark Materials, adapted from the popular novels by author Phillip Pullman. Written by Jack Thorn, the first series will consist of eight parts.
Toruk's TakeLike sands through the hourglass so are the Days of our Lives. Time is a funny thing. When I first read the His Dark Materials novels (which I loved) I was a devout lefty…or so I thought. A proud atheist against the idea of authoritarians telling me what to believe or how to think. While this stance hasn’t changed much the authoritarians in question most assuredly have. Only I believe this strain of Goose-steppers are far worse than any that the world has ever seen.
I also doubt Mr. Pullman and I would see eye-to-eye regarding the current political landscape and I definitely know that the politics of the BBC ( their recent Iliad series was nothing short of disgusting ) are incompatible with my own.
All that to say I doubt I will even watch, much-less enjoy this project.
Even if by some miracle this culture war doesn’t evolve into a civil war there will still be plenty of casualties. These will take the form of friendships lost, family estranged and the abandonment of entertainment (and entertainers) we once held dear.
His Dark Materials starring Dafne Keen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Clarke Peters comes out sometime this year
