LEGO Shatters Glass!
The LEGO Movie 2:The Second Part came out last week and instantly captured the first place by grossing $34,1 million, says the Box Office Mojo. This CGI-animated film follows the rookie Master Builder Emmet Brickowski (voiced by Chris Pratt – Jurassic World) as he travels across the universe to rescue his abducted friends. Written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (who also directed The LEGO Movie in 2014), The LEGO Movie 2 was directed by the filmmaker Mike Mitchell, creators of such beloved classics as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.
Second place in the weekend box office belongs to yet another newcomer. Romantic comedy What Men Want earned $18,2 million. This loose remake of the 2000 film What Women Want was made by Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages, Step Up movies), starring Taraji P. Henson (2010 The Karate Kid remake). Liam Neeson’s vehicle Cold Pursuit is in third place with a bit over $11 million. Comedy-drama The Upside is in the fourth place with $7 million while the fifth place of the weekend box office belongs to M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass.
Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Team Up
SyFy Wire reports that Warner Bros. is teaming up with DC Entertainment and Nickelodeon for an animated film Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As its title suggests, the story will have everyone’s favorite turtle-men ninjas meeting everyone’s favorite bat-man ninja. After an inevitable hero vs. hero showdown, the Caped Crusader will team up with the heroes in the half-shell to help them find a way back to their own dimension even as they face various villains. The film’s voice cast will feature — among others — Cas Anvar (The Expanse) as Ra’s al Ghul, Troy Baker (Bioshock Infinite) as both Batman and the Joker, Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Batgirl, John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) as Mr. Freeze and Tara Strong (The Powerpuff Girls) as both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.
Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an adaptation of a comic book miniseries written by James Tynion IV with illustrations by Freddie Williams II. Published under the title Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the comic book was released in six issues from December 2015 until May 2016. Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes out this spring.
Resident Evil Director to Make Monster Hunter Movie
/Film reports that Paul W.S. Anderson, director of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil is getting ready to tackle yet another computer game franchise – Capcom’s Monster Hunter. Anderson’s wife and frequent collaborator Milla Jovovich will portray the leading role of Lieutenant Artemis, an army officer who, alongside her troops, ends up transported to another world of magic and fantasy. Beset by gigantic primeval monsters, Artemis and her soldiers find themselves fighting for bare survival. Alongside Jovovich, Monster Hunter will feature Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) and Ron Perlman (Pacific Rim).
Capcom released the first Monster Hunter game in 2004. Since then, this action role-playing game has had five sequels and a number of spin-offs as well as accompanying manga and anime series. Over the last two decades, Anderson made a name for himself as a director and producer of schlocky yet sometimes enjoyable B-movies like Death Race, Event Horizon and Soldier. But it’s his love for video games that features prominently in his oeuvre: after directing Mortal Kombat in 1995, Anderson went on to either direct or produce five Resident Evil movies.
