SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Official Trailer

Directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame where Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) are recruited by Nick Fury to battle an organization called The Elementals.

“Might want to turn him over so he doesn’t swallow his tongue.”

    Toruk's Take

In my humble opinion the best part about 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming was easily Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes, AKA: The Vulture. Keaton, harnessing skills he has honed over decades, easily garnered empathy from the audience for his character’s plight (even if we disagreed with his manner of addressing it) and effortlessly evoked menace when the role called for it (the car scene between him and Holland was Keaton firing on all cylinders).

That, unfortunately, was all I could really say for the film, which, saving that, pretty much fell flat for me.

This film sadly, has the same cast of characters that bored (and annoyed) me in equal measure from the first film. I could drop Zendaya out of an airplane and not lose an ounce of sleep. One ridiculous SJW rant from her in the first film was one too many. I’m certainly not going to shell out money to hear another one. As for fatboy…(Jacob Batalon)…the less said the better.

This trailer left me with a gaping yawn. The action seemed perfunctory, the bad guys looked one-dimensional and Mysterio…let me take a wild stab in the dark, he goes bad in the end.

Films like this make me wonder why I was interested in Superhero flicks in the first place.

Anyone remember an actually good away from home story where Spider-Man went to Germany and had to go up against Wolverine?

Spider-Man versus Wolverine Vol 1. (1987) Good stuff. Back when they still knew how to tell stories.

This was the real Spider-Man far from home story!

Spider-Man: Far From Home starring Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal opens in theaters July 5th, 2019.
