Directed by Neil Marshall and co-written by Andrew Cosby, Aron Coleite, Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola, Hellboy is an R-rated reboot of the Hellboy franchaise started by Guillermo del Toro back in 2004. In this film, Hellboy must stop an ancient medieval sorceress from destroying all of mankind.
For those who don’t know, Hellboy is a fictional superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. A half-demon, who was raised by Allied Forces, primarily a Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, and works for an agency called The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D)
Toruk's Take‘He’s an asshole.’
Dog Soldiers (2002) and The Descent (2005) were solid films. I definitely think the guy (Neil Marshall) has chops when it comes to directing. Four screenplay writers…no so encouraging.
I never read the Hellboy comics nor saw the movies…the reasons for this are way too complicated to get into now but it wasn’t because I didn’t think I wouldn’t like the property. Given that, I have no idea how accurate this trailer is to the comic. All I can go by is what I see in the trailer…which seems to lean heavily on humor. Or at least the attempt at humor. I didn’t laugh at the jokes…but then I guess you had to be there. Overall this doesn’t look like my cup of Java. The acting seem docile and the effects look rather shoddy, I could have sworn I saw a man-in-suit creature in there somewhere.
I don’t know…maybe it’s David Harbour. I can’t even begin to get excited about anything this buffoon is in after his ridiculous rant at the SAG awards.
What a posturing muppet.
I’m assuming Hellboy is supposed to be likable at least…unfortunately when I look at this guy in costume all I want to do is punch him in his rubbery face.
Something tells me he won’t even come close to touching Ron Perlman’s portrayal.
Milla looks good, though…but then…my love for Milla makes me biased. 😎
Hellboy starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim will be summoned to theaters April 12, 2019.
