Ralph Breaks the Box Office… Again
In its second week in cinemas, Ralph Breaks the Internet is once again in the first place of the weekend box office with $25,5 million, reports Box Office Mojo. A sequel to a 2012 CGI-animated film about the adventures of a lovable villain from an old computer game, Ralph Breaks the Internet features the voices of John C. Reilly (Laurel and Hardy), Sarah Silverman (A Million Ways to Die in the West) and Jane Lynch (Glee) reprising their roles of Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz and Sergeant Calhoun.
In the second place of the last weekend’s box office is Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch which grossed almost $18 million. In the third place with $16,6 million is the sports drama Creed 2 featuring Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther), Sylvester Stallone (Expendables), Tessa Thompson (Westworld) and Dolph Lundgren (Dolph Lundgren). Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald managed to remain in the fourth place by earning $11,4 million. Finally, in the fifth place of the last weekend’s box office is once again the musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody with $8 million.
New Guest Stars Announced for the New Twilight Zone
Apparently, CBS is going all in on its latest incarnation of the sci-fi horror anthology series Twilight Zone. Recently, Screen Rant announced a string of new guest stars that will appear on the rebooted show: John Cho (Star Trek movie reboots), Allison Tolman (TV series Fargo) and Jacob Tremblay (Wonder). They will join the likes of Sanaa Lathan (Alien vs. Predator), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, The Big Sick) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation).
In September we first learned that CBS is producing a new version of Rod Serling’s classic 1959 series for the CBS All Access streaming service. The series – that was already rebooted several times over the last fifty years – will be hosted and narrated by Jordan Peele. Part of the lead comedy duo in Comedy Central’s sketch series Key & Peele, Peele drew attention of reviewers and audiences alike with his 2017 movie debut Get Out. Written and directed by Peele, this darkly satirical horror movie went on to receive four Academy Award nominations, winning the award for the Best Original Screenplay.
This latest version of the Twilight Zone will be released in 2019.
Cowboy Bebop Creator Working on Blade Runner Anime
Adult Swim has recently partnered with Alcon Television Group to create an anime TV series inspired by the characters and the universe of Blade Runner, reports Variety. The series, titled Blade Runner – Black Lotus, will consist of 13 half-hour episodes. Shinichiro Watanabe, creator of anime series such as Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, will be the show’s executive producer, while Ghost In The Shell veterans Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama will direct.
Last year saw Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi noir classic. Leading to that movie’s release were three anime shorts, bridging the gap between the films. By far the most popular of them was Shinichiro Watanabe’s Blade Runner Black Out 2022. In it, we learn more about the growing anti-replicant sentiment among the public that, in turn, leads replicants not only to learn how to defend themselves but also to create a hidden underground for themselves. Black Lotus will take place in the year 2032 – after the events of Black Out but well before the events in the Villeneuve’s film.
