From a script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Beauty, and the Beast), Robert Schwentke is in talks to direct an upcoming G.I. Joe film starring Snake Eyes. Schwentke directed the last two installments of the Divergent Series (Insurgent and Allegiant).
Snake Eyes is one of G. I. Joe’s most popular characters. He was trained as a ninja by the Arashikage Clan alongside his now nemesis Storm Shadow. Snake Eyes is known for being a formidable warrior who dresses in all black with his face covered, uses a Katana Sword and never speaks a word.

Toruk's TakeThe Divergent Series deteriorated quickly with each subsequent film making less than the last. The latest one, Allegiant, directed by Schwentke, has a rotten tomato rating of 12% is said to have lost Lionsgate around 50 Million dollars. This…doesn’t make me optimistic. Schwentke is receiving accolades for his latest film The Captain but this doesn’t hold much water with me given the subject matter deals with the Nazis. You do a film about Nazis and like Pavlovian dogs critics will immediately start wetting themselves with excitement.
As one of my favorites since I was a kid, it would be nice to see Snake Eyes (and G. I. Joe for that matter) finally done justice.
In this case, however, I won’t hold my breath.
