Toruk's Take“I’m not the Joan of Ark of fat girls”
I suppose we’re going to be seeing these types of films (fat-positive) for awhile before they die down. The left seriously believes in the notion that there is nothing wrong with being overweight and no amount of scientific study and research seems to dissuade them. I haven’t read the book (and wild horses wouldn’t be strong enough to drag me to it) but I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins. Of course, if it sticks within the realm of reality and has her lose it might not be a complete cluster of movie. But…I suppose one could argue that ‘Miss Teen Bonnet Pageant’ does not have the word ‘beauty’ or ‘healthy’ in the title. Of course, that begs the question, if the contest isn’t about beauty and our perception of what it constitutes, what’s the point of the film?
Despite the obvious and harmful underlying message, it doesn’t look like it is devoid of humor. Jennifer Aniston is always great to look at and she has proven to have great comedic timing. That coupled with Dolly Parton songs might be enough to get me to stream this on a lazy Sunday afternoon…maybe.
Dumplin’ starring Jennifer Aniston, Luke Benward, Odeya Rush, Dove Cameron, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Harold Perrineau, Sam Pancake, Dan Finnerty, Ann Mahoney, Ginger Minj, Kathy Najimy and Danielle Macdonald will be streaming on Netflix December 7, 2018.
