Written and directed by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand), X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the twelfth film in the X-Men film series. The story is based off of the popular ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ arc done by Christopher Claremont during his first run on The Uncanny X-Men comic book. In the story, X-Man Jean Grey, during a mission in space, bonds with the Phoenix force (an immortal and immutable manifestation of the universal force of life and passion) and is corrupted, eventually driven mad by her newfound power, and brought into a confrontation with…pretty much everyone else.

Toruk's TakeThose who are cynical, nihilistic and believe that human beings are inherently trash, love the idea of Phoenix being simply Jean Grey going nuts. It fits in with their despicable view of the world and the people in it as a 'problem'. Had this aspect of the original story not been retconned I would spit on the Phoenix saga every time I encountered it. I reject nihilism and cynicism. I believe human beings are entities of light given one of the greatest gifts the universe has to offer...sentience. (This is one of the reasons I despise SJWs so much. They reject this gift in favor of a base, animalistic worship of the physical. For them, the mind is not the most important aspect of a human being...it's the color of its skin and the nature of its sexual organs).
The introduction of the Phoenix entity shapes the Phoenix saga as a woman who is struggling against a vast, unfathomable power in a desperate attempt to preserve her humanity. It gives a hint of light to a bad situation. Without it, you're just left with 'humans suck' let's live like Sodom and Gomorrah. Words you will find inscribed under the SJW war banner. In this film (as well as X-Men: The Last Stand), they unsurprisingly go in the direction of: Jean Grey goes nuts...because humans suck, didn't cha know? The version that I spit on. To make matters worse, they don't even have a vast backdrop of intergalactic worlds and societies in the mix. It looks all very local and mundane, upturned police cars and exploding porches oh my. Kind of like Aunt Margaret getting drunk at the kid's birthday party and trashing the decorations. Strike two Mr. Kinberg, you're worldview is garbage. I'm going to take a hard pass.
Dark Phoenix starring James McAvoy,Michael Fassbender,Jennifer Lawrence,Nicholas Hoult,Sophie Turner,Tye Sheridan,Alexandra Shipp,Kodi Smit-McPhee,Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain is scheduled to light up theaters February 14th, 2019.
