Netflix announced that it will be streaming a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The original creators of the popular animated series Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will be on board to create the new show. M. Knight Shyamalan did a film adaptation of the series in 2010 which had a less than stellar reaction.
DiMartino and Konietzko released a statement regarding the new project:
“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.”
Production for the series begins in 2019.

I thought the series was pretty good…but then I was a liberal at the time that I watched it. I don’t recall anything overtly SJW…but who knows, maybe there was and I just didn’t notice it. Or maybe part of the reason it was good was because it was played straight. Now, however, there is something about the creator’s tone that turns me off. I detect an underlying animus…an agenda, that will likely hurt the work significantly. They give off the vibe like they have something to prove…question is, to who?Toruk's Take
