Red Sonja May Have Found Its Director In Bryan Singer

Bryan Singer (X-Men (2000), Superman Returns (2006)) is in negotiations with Millennium to helm its upcoming Red Sonja film. Ashley Miller, writer of X-Men: First Class will be writing the screenplay. Since the first film, starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger, came out in 1985, attempts to produce another one have started and stalled.

Despite Singer’s work history (his firing by Fox) and being the subject of a numerous sexual assault allegations, Millennium is said to be willing to pay Singer “top dollar” for his directorial duties. Millennium does not believe the allegations have any merit and they are interested in restoring the director’s image.

Singer has been using the aid of his attorney David Feldman to negotiate the deal given he was dropped by his agency WME earlier this year.

Partially based on Robert E. Howard’s character Red Sonya of Rogatino, Red Sonja was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics in 1973. She debuted in Conan the Barbarian #23 (February 1973) and featured in her own title Red Sonja for seven issues in 1975.

    Toruk's Take

Just when I was beginning to have a wee bit of faith in this project they go and do this. Bryan Singer should be in prison not in front of a camera and I'm not factoring in all the disgusting things he's been accused of doing to young boys. I'm talking about his complete and utter butchery of my beloved X-men! For that alone this bucket of sludge should be sent to the gallows. Needless to say if they decide to bring this deviant (and hack) onto the project it will officially be dead to me.
