My favorite Holiday of the year soon approaches, hopefully the market will provide solid horror movie fair for my annual celebration. Will Johnny Gruesome be among them? Written and directed by Gregory Lamberson (Slime City (1988), Killer Rack (2015)) and based off of a horror novel also by Gregory Lamberson, Johnny Gruesome tales the tale of Rebellious high school senior Johnny Grissom who is murdered during a drunken joyride. His classmates mysteriously begin to die when Johnny returns as a supernatural creature bent on revenge.
It’s not often you get to see a creator get to adapt their property from stem to stern. Mr. Lamberson has apparently had an entire career of such boons.
Let’s take a look at this latest:
Why aren’t you dead?!
Oh dear….the answer to my previous question, is no. It is way too easy to greenlight horror films these days. Quality control is next to non-existent. I like when Johnny has his hand rested lightly against the principal’s throat and the actor wags his tongue about to sell that he is being choked. His hands, of course, are off to either side of him flailing, because if someone is ‘choking’ you…where else would they be?
Hard Pass.
Johnny Gruesome starring Anthony De La Torr, Michael DeLorenzo, Richard Lounello and a bunch of people without thumbnails hits theaters…who knows and who cares.
