Variety reports that Warner Bros. liked Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad (2016) portrayal of the Joker so much that they’re making a solo film of the character with Leto playing the iconic character. Leto will also serve as executive producer.
Well, isn’t that special.
Plot twist, I’m not a fan of Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad. The character just was too grimy for me, and Joker always struck me as someone who would carry a pack of clean wipes with him. It just was not the way I envision the character and it is a portrayal that reduces him in my opinion. That scene in the beginning of Suicide Squad with Common gave me massive douche chills. I’m sure some will be thrilled with the news though, so good for them.
My favorite Joker portrayal outside of the comics is probably Mark Hamill’s from Batman: The Animated Series. After that, I would have to go with Jack Nicholson’s Joker from Batman (1989) and finally, Heath Ledger’s version from Christopher Nolan’s the Dark Knight.
