Neil Gaiman And Akiva Goldsman Set To Adapt Mervyn Peake’s ‘Gormenghast’ Series

The Gormenghast is a Gothic-fantasy series by British Author Mervyn Peake. They were written between 1946 and 1959 before the author succumbed to Parkinson’s disease. The stories revolve around the odd and often miserable inhabitants of Castle Gormenghast, which is a vast, decaying, gothic-like structure. The series has received widespread acclaim from literary critics, some going so far as to say it is a more accomplished work than The Lord of The Rings. It has been included in several 100 best book lists and is often cited as one of the greatest fantasy novels of all time.

So why does it not surprise me that Deadline is reporting that hackmaster de jour Akiva Goldsman is once again set loose to gnaw and butcher yet another work by someone possessing skills he will never know or understand. There are crimes…and then there are crimes. How long will this destroyer of worlds plague us??

FremantleMedia has secured the rights for the series, which is set to be adapted for television. Neil Gaiman, who has signed a multi-year deal with the company is producing…that means it’s all Goldsman. Akiva Fricken Goldsman.

    No. Thanks.

I’ll read the book, and stay as far away from this as I can get.
