Via Deadline, legendary comic book writer/artist Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, who served as show runner and executive producer of the short-lived NBC series The Cape, have landed a sweet deal with Netflix to produce a 10 episode reimagining of the legend of King Arthur called Cursed. The project will be produced in tandem with Miller and Wheeler’s upcoming YA book of the same name.
Synopsis:
“Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.”
Wheeler will be writing the book while Miller will be providing full-color and black-and-white illustrations which will be published by Simon & Schuster in 2019.
I’m gonna be honest. I was interested in this project up until I found out that Frank is not writing it. Puss in Boots? Dora the Explorer? I’m not exactly wowed by Mr. Wheeler’s oeuvre. I’m open to being surprised…but for now my expectations are deeply lowered.
