According to the wrap Sony’s reboot of The Crow is slated for Oct 11, 2019. Currently (as this could change at any moment given this production’s history) Jason Momoa (who already plays the superhero Aquaman) is set to star as the protagonist/hero Eric Draven, whose girlfriend is brutally raped, beaten and killed by some thugs. Eric, who eventually died from the attack is reborn as The Crow and seeks vengeance on the evildoers. Corin Hardy (The Hallow, 2015, The Nun, 2018) will direct, while Kevin Misher, Edward R. Pressman, Hadida, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow produce.
I love the original film by Alex Proyas starring Brandon Lee. Better than most of the comic book adaptations produced today in my opinion. Brandon Lee was pure magic, and I’m not just saying that because I worship at the alter of his father Bruce Lee. Well, not entirely. This time around they claim that they will be ‘more faithful’ to James O’Barr’s popular comic book. I love how being more faithful is now a selling point. There was a time when studios wouldn’t pull a hair about staying true to the material and geeks like me were ridiculed by sycophants for ‘being to picky’ or ‘not understanding how adaptations work’ oh how times a change.
I guess we’ll see how it turns out. Absolutely no expectations so far.
