Conan The Barbarian TV Series Coming to Amazon

It looks like the legendary Cimmerian is back in business. Created by Robert E. Howard in 1932 Conan the Barbarian has been around for a while in numerous mediums. His last no-so-stellar outing was in the film Conan The Barbarian (2011) in which he was played by Jason Momoa and directed by Marcu Nispel. With the exception of the comics and cartoons probably the most favorable incarnation of the character was the films that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80’s.

According to Deadline the character is once more making his way into the media, this time by way of Colony co-creator Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, a director on the hit series Game of Thrones. Both Condal and Sapochnik claim to be lifelong fans of the character and say that they will be returning to the original Robert E. Howard literary works in an effort to produce a series that is faithful to the ‘spirit’ of Howard’s Conan character. Mmhmm, It should be noted that Condal wrote the screenplay for the 2014 Hercules movie starring Dwayne Johnson, so there’s that. Sapochnik however, won an Emmy for his direction of the Game of Thrones episode: “Battle of The Bastards”.

This isn’t the only fantasy Amazon is deep diving into. They are also putting together a Lord of The Rings TV Series.

I must say I do prefer that projects like this take place on commercial-free streaming platforms where the creators have more freedom. If this were coming to NBC or ABC I would consider it dead on arrival. Here’s hoping this is fairly decent…or maybe even good.
