SlashFilm says Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to a 2016 action thriller The Accountant. This time it’s serious since its director Gavin O’Connor (Jane Got a Gun, Pride and Glory, Warrior) says Ben Affleck (Gone Girl, Justice League) will likely reprise his performance as the film’s lead. Furthermore, Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver, The Walking Dead) will likely return too.
The Accountant is a silly movie about Christian Wolff (played by Affleck), an autistic man who works as a forensics accountant by day and an elite assassin by night. Besides Affleck and Bernthal, it features a solid cast including Anna Kendrick (Stowaway), John Lithgow (Pet Sematary), J. K. Simmons (Palm Springs), and Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development).
Produced for approximately $44 million, The Accountant went on to earn a perfectly respectable $155 million at the worldwide box office. This success made a sequel seem like a foregone conclusion. In 2017, Warner Bros. announced it was working on a sequel. But then the project stalled. By 2020, O’Connor said the property might become a TV series instead of a film. However, now it looks as if The Accountant sequel is back.
