Antonio Banderas Joins the Cast of Indiana Jones 5

AVClub reports actor Antonio Banderas has joined the next Indiana Jones movie. As with other cast members, there is currently no information about his role. Academy Award nominee Banderas (Pain and Glory, The Laundromat) joins an already impressive cast that, besides Harrison Ford, includes Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Thomas Kretschmann (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (No Time to Die), and Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther).

Last year, Academy Award-nominated director James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan) stepped in to replace Steven Spielberg as a director of Indiana Jones 5. Nevertheless, Spielberg remained on board as one of the producers. Mangold is closely working with Spielberg, using a script by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Besides working on the sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow, this creative duo already collaborated with Mangold on Ford v Ferrari.

The filming of Indiana Jones 5 was to begin last summer but had to be postponed due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography began in the United Kingdom this June in, among other locations, Pinewood Studios, Bamburgh Castle, London, and Glasgow. The movie is currently set to come out on July 29, 2022.
