The Tomorrow War Sequel Already in the Works?

A sequel to Chris Pratt’s science fiction action film The Tomorrow War may already be on the way, at least according to an article by Deadline. Apparently, Amazon Studios and Skydance want to bring back the movie’s director Chris McKay and screenwriter Zach Dean. Actors Pratt, Edwin Hodge, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, J.K. Simmons, and Yvonne Strahovski would also return. Paramount, the studio that was the original distributor of the film before selling it to Amazon, is also involved in the deal.

As with many movies last year, the release of The Tomorrow War was hampered by the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19. Initially, Paramount set the release for December 25, 2020. Then it rescheduled the film until July 23, 2021. In January 2021, Amazon bought distribution rights from Paramount for a whopping $200 million. When The Tomorrow War came out on Amazon Prime on July 2, it became the most-watched title over the holiday weekend. However, as is so often the case with streaming services, Amazon Prime didn’t release any exact numbers. The closest thing we have to it is a report by the streaming analytics corporation Samba TV. It claims The Tomorrow War drew over 2,4 million U.S. households during the 4-day holiday weekend. But if the news above holds, that would signify Amazon’s $200 million acquisition paid off handsomely.
