Charlize Theron’s character Cipher will get her spinoff movie. Vin Diesel – who not only plays one of the leads in the Fast & Furious franchise but also serves as one of its producers – recently confirmed this to Variety. There’s already a team of writers working on a script, including Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess is a Loser), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Pokémon Detective Pikachu), and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider).
Theron’s character first appeared in the 2017 film The Fate of the Furious. Cipher is a villainous terrorist with underworld connections who wants to steal a secret superweapon and unleash a nuclear war. The character reappeared in this year’s F9: The Fast Saga. Over the last two decades, Theron certainly proved not only her acting chops but her dedication to action movies too by starring in films like Atomic Blonde, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Italian Job, and The Old Guard.
However, the proposed Cipher movie isn’t the first Fast & Furious spinoff. That honor goes to 2019’s action flick Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in which Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham play titular characters trying to prevent sinister plans by the genetically-enhanced super-soldier portrayed by Idris Elba (Pacific Rim).
