Cocaine Bear, an upcoming thriller about a bear high on cocaine, has cast its leads. According to BloodyDisgusting, among them are Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), O’Shea Jackson (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Ray Liotta (No Sudden Move), and Keri Russell (The Americans), who will all presumably portray victims of the aforementioned bear.
Cocaine Bear has been in production for some time now, with actress, comedienne, and director Elizabeth Banks at the helm. In the past, Banks directed the musical Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 and the remake of Charlie’s Angels in 2019. Her most recent project is inspired by a real-life news story about Andrew Thornton, a former narcotics officer who turned to drug trafficking. In 1985, Thornton attempted smuggling 70 pounds of Colombian cocaine into the United States by flying a private airplane. He dropped the cargo above Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia and then jumped from the plane with a parachute. However, Thornton’s parachute never opened. Several months later, investigators discovered a body of a black bear that ripped open one of the packages containing the drug and overdosed.
Jimmy Warden (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) will provide the script, while Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie) will produce the movie. The filming of Cocaine Bear will begin on August 23 in Ireland.
