Amazon’s Good Omens Renewed for a Second Season

Amazon’s darkly humorous fantasy series Good Omens is getting a second season, says SlashFilm. Even better, actors Michael Sheen (Prodigal Son) and David Tennant (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) will reprise their performances as the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, respectively.

The news was first announced by the author Neil Gaiman, who served as showrunner. Back in 1990, Gaiman also co-wrote the original novel the show is based on in collaboration with the late, great Terry Pratchett, best known for his Discworld series. Good Omens is a satirical story about the biblical Apocalypse and beings – mortal and otherwise – trying to prevent it. For the longest time, the book was deemed unfilmable due to a sprawling cast of characters and numerous plot threads. But producers at Amazon and BBC thought differently. Good Omens premiered in 2019.

Considering that the series already covered events from the novel, there’s an obvious question of what will the second season be about? How do you top the literal Apocalypse? According to Gaiman, he and Pratchett long ago discussed ideas for a sequel. The world they created is certainly rich enough.

The filming of the six-episode second season of Good Omens will begin in Scotland later this year.
