Danai Gurira to Reprise Her Role as Okoye in Two Projects

Actress Danai Gurira will reprise her performance as the character Okoye in two separate MCU projects, says GeekTyrant. According to the article, Gurira will return as commander of Wakanda’s elite military troops in the upcoming movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But the second project may be the more intriguing one: a standalone spinoff series for Disney Plus featuring Okoye’s origin story. For the moment, we know nothing about this show, except it would take place entirely in the Kingdom of Wakanda. Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed Black Panther, is developing the sequel and this spinoff series.

Danai Gurira first made a name for herself by depicting the character Michonne on the long-running The Walking Dead TV series. She swiftly came to be one of the fan favorites, both among the viewers and readers of Robert Kirkman’s original comic book. Gurira went on to play General Okoye in Black Panther in 2018. Since then, she appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. As for her character, Okoye was created by Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira. She, as well as Dora Milaje themselves, first appeared in Black Panther #1 in 1998.
