British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Godzilla, Kick-Ass, Tenet) will portray Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter in an upcoming standalone movie by Sony, says GeekTyrant. The movie will be directed by J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost, A Most Violent Year, Triple Frontier). Screenwriting duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Men in Black: International, Punisher: War Zone) will pen the script. Veteran producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.
Kraven the Hunter is a big game hunter obsessed with proving himself to the world by defeating Spider-Man. He has a certain warped sense of honor as he disdains the use of weapons. Instead, he takes down dangerous animals with his bare hands. However, Kraven uses a secret serum that enhances his strength, agility, reflexes, and endurance. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created Kraven the Hunter. The character first appeared on pages of The Amazing Spider-Man in August 1964.
Kraven the Hunter is part of Sony’s shared cinematic universe that would focus on various Spider-Man/Marvel comic book villains. Movies Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage are part of this broader fictional universe, along with Morbius – the upcoming movie featuring the titular “living vampire.”
Kraven the Hunter is currently set for a release on January 13th, 2023.
