    Henry Cavill to Play Highlander?

After portraying Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s hit series The Witcher, Henry Cavill seems ready to tackle yet another swordsman with an extended lifespan and a wig: the immortal Connor MacLeod from the 1986 film Highlander. GeekTyrant says Cavill is negotiating a deal with Lionsgate about starring in the studio’s reboot of the cult classic. Chad Stahelski (John Wick franchise) will direct with a script by Ryan J. Condal (movies Hercules and Rampage; TV shows Colony and the upcoming House of the Dragon).

Directed by Russell Mulcahy, Highlander tells a story of a 16th-century Scottish warrior (played by Christopher Lambert) who learns he can only die by beheading. However, he must fight others of his kind to reach the ultimate Prize. Their final Gathering takes place centuries later in contemporary New York City, where Connor will face the terrifying Kurgan (Clancy Brown). Oh, and Sean Connery is there, too!

Upon its initial release, Highlander was a dismal flop, earning $12 million on a $19 million budget. But just like its titular character, it couldn’t be killed. Instead, it grew into a franchise that includes four sequels, two live-action TV shows, and an animated series.

There are no details regarding the story for the reboot, but Stahelski previously talked about developing it as a movie trilogy.
