AVClub reports Russell Crowe will be depicting Greek god Zeus in the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder. Academy Award-winning actor revealed this during a recent interview on an Australian morning TV show. Apparently, just like in Marvel comic books, there’s more than one Earth pantheon running around the universe!
The film has been in production for quite some time now. This will be the second Marvel movie by Taika Waititi, who, back in 2017, filmed enormously successful Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi also co-wrote the script alongside Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will return as Thor and Valkyrie, respectively. They will be joined by the cast of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Natalie Portman will again portray Dr. Jane Foster from the first two Thor movies, while Jeff Goldblum will reprise his performance as Grandmaster from Thor: Ragnarok. Additionally, the cast includes Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Sam Neill, and Christian Bale as the movie’s lead villain Gorr the God Butcher.
The filming was to begin in August 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed until January of this year. Initially slated for a release on November 5, 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder should come out on May 6, 2022.
