Netflix Working on a Terminator Anime

AVClub reports Netflix is developing a Terminator anime series. According to the article, Japanese animation studio Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell series) has been contracted about this project. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) will be in charge as showrunner and executive producer.

Over the last several years, Netflix has either produced or began developing a number of anime shows based on popular franchises. Castlevania may be the best example of this, but it’s far from the only one. The streaming giant is currently developing anime shows set in the universe of The Witcher and Zack Synder’s Army of the Dead movie.

As for The Terminator, this 1984 action film featuring time travel and killer robots from the future needs no introduction. It launched the career of its director and screenwriter James Cameron and helped to establish Arnold Schwarzenegger as a 1980s superstar. The first film was followed in 1991 by the bigger and more expensive sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day. In the decades to follow, Warner Bros. continued churning out Terminator sequels, most of which bombed at the box office worse than nuclear missiles launched by Skynet. So, at this point, why not make an anime Terminator too?
