GeekTyrant says a TV series remake of the 2005 movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in the works, with Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) in lead roles. Glover was the first to reveal the news on his Instagram. New Regency is producing the project – co-created by Francesca Sloane (Fargo, The First, Seven Seconds) – For Amazon Prime.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a 2005 spy action movie by Doug Liman about a rich couple – played by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – who secretly work as assassins. Their lives change when they get hired to kill each other. Produced for $110 million, the movie went on to earn $487 million worldwide.
Donald Glover began his career as a writer for the sitcom 30 Rock. He rose to fame on the sitcom Community. In 2016, Glover created the FX series Atlanta, in which he also plays the lead. Besides that, he also works as a stand-up comedian and rapper under the stage name Childish Gambino. As for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, she proved herself equally successful both in front of and behind the camera. Waller-Bridge began as an actress and stand-up comedian. In 2016, he created BBC dramedy Fleabag, where she plays the titular character. Waller-Bridge also created the TV series Killing Eve and appeared on shows like Broadchurch and His Dark Materials.
