Variety reports WarnerMedia revealed several actors who will lend their voices for the upcoming animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Among them is Matthew Rhys, who previously starred in shows The Americans and Perry Mason. Then there’s Ming-Na Wen, who worked on shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Mandalorian and voiced the titular character in Disney’s 1998 animated film Mulan. BD Wong, who also worked on the original Mulan, was cast as well. Finally, there’s the veteran actor James Hong. During six decades of his career, Hong appeared in countless movies and TV shows. But he may be best known for his role of the villainous David Lo Pan in John Carpenter’s 1986 film Big Trouble in Little China.
Back in 2019, WarnerMedia first announced plans to produce an animated TV series about Gremlins. The prequel series will take place in China in 1920, decades before events depicted in Joe Dante’s movies Gremlins and Gremlins: The New Batch. The series will tell the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (played as an old man in the films by Keye Luke) first met Gizmo.
The first season of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will consist out of ten episodes. It will premiere on HBO Max sometime this year.
