Scream queen legend Jamie Lee Curtis has just been cast in Eli Roth’s live-action adaptation of the video game series Borderlands, says GeekTyrant. She is yet another A-list actor joining a frankly surprising list of talent, in front of and behind the camera.
Borderlands is a massively popular series of action role-playing shooters taking place on a faraway planet in a distant future that nevertheless looks like a mix between a western and a Mad Max movie. As developed by Gearbox Software, Borderlands games are famous for their crazy, over-the-top combat, colorful visuals, and an anarchic sense of humor. But, while there are some cool characters and quests, people don’t primarily play these games because of their intricate plotting or characterization.
Therefore, imagine our surprise when we first heard horror filmmaker Eli Roth (Green Inferno, Cabin Fever) plans to direct a Borderlands movie, with Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin as a screenwriter. Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings) will portray one of the leads, alongside comedian Kevin Hart (Jumanji). Producer Avi Arad, a man behind an impressively extensive list of superhero movies, is producing this project, too.
