Amazon Looking to Buy Chris Pratt’s Sci-fi Actioner The Tomorrow War

Back in 2019, Christ Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy) joined the sci-fi action film The Tomorrow War. Its premise is certainly something: faced with a defeat in a war against aliens, scientists come up with a way to draft soldiers from history to fight in the future. The movie was initially slated for a cinema release, but the global pandemic changed that. Now, SlashFilm reports Paramount and Skydance set up a special screening for representatives from various streaming platforms, hoping to sell the movie rights. Amazon seems to be the leading candidate for a deal that could reach up to $200 million. Paramount and Skydance studios recently sold the Michael B. Jordan thriller Without Remorse to Amazon. They’ve also sold animated films Luck and Spellbound to AppleTV+.

The Tomorrow War is a live-action feature film debut by filmmaker Chris McKay, who previously directed The Lego Batman Movie. Based on a script by Zach Dean (Deadfall), the film features an impressive cast. Besides Pratt, it includes Seychelle Gabriel (Falling Skies), Edwin Hodge (The Purge film series), Betty Gilpin (The Hunt), Mary Lynn Rajskub (Safety Not Guaranteed), J. K. Simmons (Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy), Yvonne Strahovski (The Predator), and others.

The Tomorrow War is currently still set to come out on July 23, 2021.
