The Production of The Flash to Begin in April, 2021

GeekTyrant reports that a stand-alone film about the DC superhero The Flash will start production in April, 2021. This is good news for the long-gestating project that spent at least six years in limbo, with several directors leaving and countless script rewrites. By mid-2019, Warner Bros. hired Andy Muschietti (It, Mama) as director and Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey) as screenwriter.

Ezra Miller will reprise his performance as the fastest man alive. In 2016, Miller first played the Flash in a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. A year later, he played one of the leads in The Justice League. In 2020, Miller even appeared as the Flash on TV series Arrow, opposite Grant Gustin as the show’s version of Barry Allen.

Apparently, multiverse will play a major part in The Flash movie. Both Muschietti and Miller are interested in adapting – or at least using the elements from – Flashpoint, a 2011 DC Comics crossover story arc by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. This might explain how the movie apparently has both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck playing Batman, which should be fun if true. Naturally, the production might be impacted by the still raging COVID-19 pandemic, so there’s always a chance the shooting might be halted, something that happened in December with The Flash TV series.

The latest release date for The Flash is November 4, 2022.
