Even though the second season of the fantasy horror series Locke and Key hasn’t aired yet, Netflix has already renewed it for a third season. According to BloodyDisgusting, this news comes as Meredith Averill, who is running the series alongside Carlton Cuse, has just signed a deal with the streaming service to develop new projects for Netflix.
Based on an Eisner Award-winning comic book by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, Locke and Key is a story about the Locke family. After barely surviving a horrifying home invasion, they move across the country to their old ancestral mansion. However, siblings Bode (Jackson Robert Scott– It), Kinsey (Emilia Jones – High-Rise), and Tyler (Connor Jessup – American Crime) quickly learn the old house hides mystical keys unlocking strange powers. Aaron Ashmore (Killjoys), Laysla De Oliveira (In the Tall Grass), and Darby Stanchfield (Mad Men) round up the show’s cast.
After two failed attempts to adapt the comic book (by FOX in 2010 and by Hulu in 2017), Locke and Key finally premiered on Netflix in February 2020. In March, the streaming service renewed the show. The production of its second season is currently underway in Toronto.
