Willow TV Series Looking to Cast Its Female Leads

Back in October, we first reported Disney Plus was developing a TV series continuing the story of the 1988 fantasy film Willow. Now, SlashFilm says that the producers are in talks with three potential cast members who would play lead characters: Ellie Bamber (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy).

Set decades after the events of Ron Howard’s 1988 film, the TV series would follow a trio of protagonists on a mission to save a kidnapped prince. If the deals go through, Spaeny will play Kit, a princess whose twin brother has been abducted. Kellyman is in talks to portray Jade, Kit’s servant, who is one of the best warriors in the land. Finally, Bamber might play the role of Dove, a kitchen maid who learns she is the chosen one.

Disney hired Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) to direct the series while Ron Howard is on board as one of its producers. Warwick Davis, who played the role of a wannabe-sorcerer Willow in the original film, will reprise his performance.
