Production of The Witcher’s second season has been underway in Great Britain since August. However, as SlashFilm reports, it had to be stopped recently when several COVID-19 tests came back positive. There are no details about who tested positive – the cast or the crew – and frankly, it doesn’t matter. People who caught the disease have been placed in isolation while producers suspended the shoot to protect others.
Regrettably, this isn’t the first time this happened. Back in March, a thousand years ago, Netflix had to halt the production of its epic fantasy show’s second season when the new cast member Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) caught COVID-19. That was just the first among the far too many reports about global pandemic halting productions. By summer, COVID-19 rates in the UK dropped thanks to widespread lockdown and other health and safety measures. Productions eventually resumed but, with winter fast approaching, the second wave of the coronavirus is already affecting the entire northern hemisphere.
The second season of The Witcher will continue the adventures of the monster hunter Geralt (Henry Cavill), his ward Ciri (Freya Allan), sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and bard Jaskier (Joey Batey). Besides Kristofer Hivj, the cast will include Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, and Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia. The show will premiere sometime in 2021 – probably later than sooner, considering the delays.
