As Shang-Chi Wraps Production, Spider-Man 3 Begins Shooting; Thor 4 Incoming

The entertainment industry suffered under the pandemic, with coronavirus shutting down productions, canceling shows, and postponing releases. However, even in this darkest timeline, the Marvel machine continues producing new superhero films. Case in point: SlashFilm reports Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just wrapped up filming in Australia. Both its director Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy, The Glass House), as well as its lead Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) announced the end of production on Instagram. With the pandemic upsetting movie release schedules, Marvel pushed Shang-Chi to July 9, 2021.

Meanwhile, the production of the third Spider-Man featuring Tom Holland just began in New York. The movie will feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange. But far more interesting is that Jamie Foxx will reportedly reprise his performance as the villain Electro from Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield. Is this the beginning of a much-hyped Marvel cinematic multiverse? Will there even be any cinemas left to screen this film two years from now? Your guess is as good as ours!

And finally, it is worth mentioning that, during a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth revealed production of Thor: Love and Thunder will begin next January. According to him, director and screenwriter Taika Waititi is currently working on the script alongside Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. While we were initially skeptical about this news, when put in context along with the abovementioned projects, it seems as if Marvel and Disney are serious about this. Let us hope nobody catches coronavirus at the set.
