Deadline reports SyFy just announced first casting for its upcoming Day of the Dead TV series. Kristy Dinsmore (Vikings), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel), and newcomer Morgan Holmstrom will portray a group of strangers brought together by the zombie apocalypse. Set in a rural Pennsylvania town, ten episodes of the show’s first season will take place during the initial 24 hours of the zombie outbreak.
Back in March, we reported SyFy ordered a TV series inspired by George Romero’s 1985 seminal horror classic. Its showrunners and screenwriters Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas previously worked together on Malibu Rescue, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, as well as in 2019 horror-comedy The Banana Splits Movie. Presently, we learned horror filmmaker Steven Kostanski (The Void, Psycho Goreman) will direct the first four episodes of the series while also serving as one of its executive producers. The production of Day of the Dead is currently underway in Vancouver.
