Amazon is developing a spinoff to its dark and edgy superhero show The Boys. According to GeekTyrant, the spinoff will take place at America’s only superhero college. There, with the blessing of the totally-not-sinister corporation Vought International, wannabe Homelanders scheme and compete against each other on their way to superstardom or notoriety. Just like The Boys, the spinoff series will include a healthy dollop of profanity, sex, and carnage. Essentially, it will be an R-rated teen/young adult soap opera with superpowers.
The creators of The Boys have been working on this idea for some time now. Then, as the season 2 viewership nearly doubled compared to season 1, Amazon executives put this project on a fast track to exploit the show’s success. Craig Rosenberg, one of the executive producers of The Boys, will serve as a writer.
Erik Kripke’s grimly humorous superhero spoof was renewed even before season 2 first aired. In addition, Amazon is giving the series a weekly aftershow special. Next came the news about Supernatural star Jensen Ackles joining the cast as the character Soldier Boy. All things considered, it looks like The Boys are on a roll.
