GeekTyrant reports Netflix canceled its science fiction series Altered Carbon after just two seasons. Created by Laeta Kalogridis based on cyberpunk novels by Richard Morgan, the world of the series revolved around an intriguing premise: a future in which people can digitally save their entire personas and upload them into new bodies. While the first season was a perfectly decent pulpy sci-fi noir starring Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad), the second one featuring Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) wasn’t nearly as good.
On the bright side, Netflix also announced it would be renewing Cobra Kai for a third season. This is the first official confirmation since YouTube sold the show to the streaming giant back in June. Created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, Cobra Kai revisits the characters from the original 1984 Karate Kid. Decades later, Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence resume their rivalry by training a new generation of karate kids.
Throughout the last two weeks, Netflix executives were busy dropping and renewing shows all over the place. The streaming service abruptly canceled Christopher Keyser’s TV series The Society after it had halted the production of the show’s second season back in March due to the pandemic. Similarly, supernatural teen drama I Am Not Okay With This based on a comic book by Charles Forsman was also canceled after a single season. On the other hand, Netflix renewed Warrior Nun, another supernatural teen drama based on a comic book.
