Rachel Weisz To Star in Dead Ringers Remake

Academy Award-winning actress Rachel Weisz (Constant Gardner, Favourite) will star and executive produce a TV series remake of David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers. BloodyDisgusting says British playwright and screenwriter Alice Birch (Lady Macbeth) will write the show while Amazon will produce it. Weisz will portray dual roles of twin sisters working as gynecologists in Manhattan, indulging in sex and drugs while simultaneously performing illegal and dangerous medical experiments. There is as yet no information about when will the production begin.

First released in 1988, Dead Ringers is a psychological horror film featuring Jeremy Irons as the twin doctors Elliot and Beverly Mantle and Geneviève Bujold (Coma) as their love interest. Cronenberg directed Dead Ringers at the end of the decade during which he filmed some of his most famous (or notorious) movies like Scanners, Videodrome and The Fly. While far from a commercial success, critics critically praised it for its unsettling atmosphere and Irons’ double performance. The film was based on a novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland. In turn, that book was loosely inspired by a true-life story about Stewart and Cyril Marcus, identical twin gynecologists who died together in New York in 1975.

There’s no word yet when will the show’s production begin.
