Marvel’s limited TV series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was supposed to come out this August. However, even though Disney never officially announced the release date change, its recent list of movies and TV shows coming to Disney+ next month doesn’t mention the show. As with all the bad news in entertainment these days, we already know what caused this: the COVID-19 pandemic. AVClub says that the shooting of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was underway in Prague when coronavirus struck, halting the production.
Throughout 2019 Marvel announced an entire slate of live-action TV shows that would continue the adventures of Marvel superheroes. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series was to come out this summer, followed by WandaVision in December and Loki sometime next year. Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie were to reprise their performances as the Winter Soldier and the Falcon, with Emily VanCamp returning as Sharon Carter and Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo.
Currently, it isn’t clear whether this will impact release dates of other Marvel TV shows. But the way the pandemic is going, we might wait for them. How quickly things change! This time last year, I was rolling my eyes at the seemingly endless onslaught of Marvel superhero properties. Well, I guess I got my wish. Yay.
