Coco Keeps On Keeping On
For the third weekend in a row, animated feature film Coco remained in the first place at the box office, having earned $18.4 million. Produced by Disney and Pixar for $175 million, this musical fantasy has so far earned around $400 million worldwide. According to Box Office Mojo, Justice League keeps trailing behind in the second place with $9.6 million – about half of Coco‘s weekend gross. While the latest superhero blockbuster by Warner Bros. has grossed around $600 million worldwide, the studio nevertheless expected better returns.
In the third place is, once again, Wonder. Now in its fourth week in cinemas, this $20 million drama managed to earn over $100 million worldwide. Thor: Ragnarok lost the fourth place to James Franco’s biographical comedy-drama The Disaster Artist. The story about the making of the 2003 so-bad-its-good cult classic The Room premiered in the 12th place in its first weekend and earned around $1 million, only to gross about six times as much in its second weekend and sky-rocket to the fourth place. Thor: Ragnarok dropped to the fifth place with $6.2 million.
Marvel’s The Punisher Renewed
Netflix recently announced on Twitter that Marvel’s The Punisher has been renewed for a second season. Based on Marvel’s gritty – and sometimes controversial – comic book character, The Punisher follows the saga of Frank Castle (played in the show by Jon Bernthal), a military veteran who, after the violent murder of his wife and kids, starts waging a one-man war against organized crime.

As portrayed by Bernthal, The Punisher first appears in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil. Both shows brought surprising nuance and humanity to a story about a vigilante who battles not only the criminal underworld but also his own inner demons from his time in the armed forces. The first season of Marvel’s The Punisher was released by Netflix this November and was well received by audiences and reviewers alike.
Woody Harrelson to Appear in the Venom Movie?
AVClub reports that the actor Woody Harrelson is in talks to appear in Ruben Fleischer’s movie about Venom, one of the more unsettling Spider-Man villains. Harrelson has already worked with Fleischer on the 2009 horror comedy Zombieland. Academy Award-nominee Harrelson may very well join the movie’s surprisingly esteemed cast that already includes two other Academy Award nominees: Tom Hardy (Dunkirk, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea, Shutter Island).
This comes atop news about Tom Hardy confirming that this upcoming Spider-Man spin-off is based on a 1993 six-issue miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector. In the comic book written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, Sam Delarosa, and Ron Lim, Venom agrees to a truce with Spider-Man and moves to San Francisco. However, Venom soon becomes an unlikely hero when an ominous private organization starts hunting him down, wanting to turn the alien symbiote into a weapon. Venom ends up facing a group of symbiotic super-villains that are somehow even more disturbing than him.
