Universal Postpones Halloween Kills, Candyman and The Forever Purge

With major cinema chains closed for almost four months now, Universal is postponing several of its upcoming horror movie releases. According to SlashFilm, these include Halloween Kills, Candyman sequel/reboot, and The Forever Purge.

Halloween Kills is the second installment in a new trilogy of movies about the slasher killer Michael Myers. The studio has slated its release for October 16, 2020. But now it has pushed it a full year – to October 15, 2021. Additionally, this means the final installment in the trilogy won’t come out until 2022. David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside his frequent collaborator Danny McBride (Vice Principals, The Righteous Gemstones, Eastbound & Down) and Scott Teems (Rectify). Similarly, dystopian action horror film The Forever Purge is coming out a full year later. The fifth and – at least, for now – the final installment in The Purge franchise was slated for July 10, 2020, release. Instead, it will come out on July 9, 2021.

As for Candyman, Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) directed this reboot/sequel based on a script by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us). The studio planned to release Candyman on June 12, 2020. Instead, the movie will come out on October 16, 2020 – a date formerly occupied by Halloween Kills.
