SlashFilm reports Elisabeth Moss will play an ax murderer in a limited series called Candy, produced by the Universal Content Productions. The series is based on a real-life case from the 1980s: a seemingly content suburban housewife had an affair with the husband of her pregnant best friend and then brutally murdered her.
Her breakout role was in the critically acclaimed period drama Mad Men. There, Moss played Peggy Olson, a secretary who scales the corporate ladder of the 1960s ad agency to become an advertising guru. In five years since the show ended, Moss took to performing challenging roles, mostly in genre fares such as dystopian science-fiction series The Handmaid’s Tale or in horror movies like Us and The Invisible Man.
Candy was written by the three-time Emmy nominated screenwriter Robin Veith who also worked on Mad Men. Veith will produce the show as well alongside Nick Antosca, a veteran of grisly entertainment. Antosca is a novelist, screenwriter, and producer who previously worked on shows like Hannibal, Channel Zero, and The Act as well on movies such as The Forest and the upcoming horror film Antlers.
Universal Content Productions is planning to start shopping Candy around to networks and streaming services. Considering the caliber of the people involved there very little doubt someone will pick it up.
