Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill to Feature Prominently in the Next Jurassic World Film
During his recent interview with Yahoo Movies UK, actor Sam Neill confirmed his role in the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion will be far more than a mere cameo. New Zealand actor memorably portrayed paleontologist Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park. The studio announced some time ago Neill would appear in the film alongside Laura Dern’s paleobotanist Ellie Sattler and Jeff Goldblum’s mathematician Ian Malcolm. According to the actor, all three will feature prominently throughout the film. Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Chris Pratt, and Justice Smith will also reprise their performances from the previous films in the franchise.
Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first Jurassic World, is working on its second sequel as well. Production was well underway when the coronavirus pandemic began back in March, about 65 million news cycles ago. Recently, Universal revealed plans to continue filming the movie in the UK this July after investing $5 million in various health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on set. Jurassic World: Dominion comes out on June 11, 2021. That is, of course, if movie theatres don’t go extinct until then.
Margot Robbie to Star in the New Pirates of the Caribbean Film
Margot Robbie continues tapping into that chaotic Harley Queen energy. AVClub reports that Robbie, a breakout star of Suicide Squad and Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood will play a lead role in the Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff. Even though this movie will take place in the same universe as previous Pirates movies, it will be unrelated to the characters and events in them. To make matters more confusing, this Pirates of the Caribbean film seems a separate project from that other Pirates of the Caribbean film that Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin is writing a script for.
Robbie is bringing along screenwriter Christina Hodson with whom she previously collaborated on Birds of Prey. Dodson also worked on Bumblebee and is currently producing scripts for the upcoming movies about the Flash and the Batgirl. Remember when Pirates of the Caribbean were fun? Well, neither do we. At any rate, Disney seems determined to squeeze as much money as possible from what was once a somewhat entertaining franchise? Maybe? Well, at least as entertaining as a movie based upon a theme park ride can be. But the audience seems to enjoy them, and no one ever lost money by pandering to the lowest common denominator. So yo-ho-ho and the bottle of rum!
NBC Picks Up Sci-Fi Series Debris
NBC has picked up a science fiction TV series Debris, reports Variety. Its premise follows a pair of secret agents investigating the wreckage of a fallen alien spaceship and its peculiar effects on humanity. Debris features Riann Steele (Ant-Man and the Wasp, Crazyhead, The Magicians) as by-the-book MI6 agent Finola Jones and Jonathan Tucker (Justified, Westworld) as a CIA operative Bryan Beneventi who is, most likely, a loose cannon playing by his own rules. J. H. Wyman (writer and producer on TV shows like Fringe and Almost Human) is producing the series alongside Jason Hoffs, who previously worked on Tom Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow as well as on Netflix adaptation of the Japanese comic book Death Note.
Hidden in this news lies another story: Debris was the only pilot NBC ordered made before the coronavirus pandemic broke out. Nevertheless, executives hope to film at least some of the others if the situation allows. Among them is a pilot episode for Langdon, a TV series featuring the leading character from Dan Brown’s bestselling novels, portrayed in several movies by Tom Hanks. However, the network also postponed the production of at least five other pilots it ordered until the next development cycle. These include shows like Rachele Lynn and Seth Meyers’ Craazy For You and Someone Out There from Matt Hubbard, Josh Siegal, and Dylan Morgan, a trio previously working on 30 Rock.
