According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBCUniversal will launch its streaming service Peacock on July 15. The launch will be accompanied by eight new TV shows and one movie.
Possibly the most interesting among them for genre fans is a TV series adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s sci-fi classic Brave New World. First published in 1932, it is set in a seemingly utopian world that achieved peace through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself. Created by showrunner David Wiener (Fear the Walking Dead), the series will feature Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones, Legion), Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries), and Demi Moore (Demi Moore).
Peacock will also premiere Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, the second feature film following the long-running comedy detective show about fake psychic Shawn (James Roday – A Million Little Things) and his best friend Gus (Dulé Hill – The West Wing) solving crimes in Santa Barbara. Other original TV programs include thriller series The Capture starring Callum Turner (The Borgias, Ripper Street) and the satirical sitcom Intelligence featuring David Schwimmer (Friends).
Peackock will also include full seasons of shows like 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, Cheers, Frasier, Friday Night Lights, and Parks and Recreation. The service will come in three tiers. Free, ad-supported version will feature around 7500 hours of programming. Peacock Premium will offer double that amount for $5 per month with ads. An ad-free version of the service will cost $10 monthly.
